TRAINING

Scali's training programs are geared specifically to provide educational opportunities in the area of clustering for high performance computing (HPC). The fundamental goal of Scaliís training services is to ensure the customer or partner gains maximum leverage from our clustering solutions and technologies. All Scali training programs are performed by experienced cluster users or consultants. Training is conducted on-site at the customer or partner offices or at Scaliís headquarters. For select courses, shorter training sessions are available as online webinars.

Training is based on Scali's applications and uses generic scenarios and data. These instructor-led courses generally are recommended to accommodate up to 8 students. Training courses currently available are shown in the table below.

1. Cluster Deployment and Management with Scali Software

This is a two-day course designed for users that will be deploying and managing clusters running Scali Manage and/or Scali MPI Connect. The class provides hands-on experience installing and managing clusters with Scali's software. The course covers the following areas:

  • Cluster theory and concepts
  • Planning and system requirements
  • Description of major functions in Scali Manage and Scali MPI Connect
  • Hand-on custom and express system setup, installation and configuration
  • Hands-on execution of management activities including monitoring systems, setting alarms, adding/replacing nodes, reinstalling/upgrading software, managing remote clusters and leveraging work load management
  • Tools and processes to ensure optimum system reliability and utilization
  • Problem diagnosis and identification for troubleshooting
  • Managing multi-cluster sites, running heterogeneous environments and migrating from legacy platforms

Audience: Operations, system administration and technical consulting staff at partner and customers organizations.

Prerequisites: General knowledge of computers and networks. Linux (Unix), basic clustering and HPC experience is strongly recommended.

1. Optimizing Performance with Scali MPI Connect

This course is designed for users that are interested in optimizing MPI and application performance through the use of built-in features in Scali MPI Connect. Attendees are guided through steps that enable them to identify communication profiles and adapt the MPI to applications at runtime. The audience is introduced to the embedded debugging, tracing and timing capabilities in Scali MPI Connect. They also learn how Scali MPI Connect can be tuned to application specific communication profiles.

  • Review cluster and node architecture and memory hierarchy
  • Scalability: Amdahl and Gustavson's laws
  • Scali MPI Connect implementation details

In this course students identify HPC clustering opportunities; discuss the value of Scali software; understand customer business issues and review practical case studies and examples. The course covers the following areas:

  • Market and competitive landscape overview
  • Overview of business and technical benefits
  • Introduction to cluster planning and system requirements
  • Review of customer needs, includes use of specific cases
  • Description of major functions in Scali Manage and Scali MPI Connect
  • Understanding of system deployment, configuration and ongoing management
  • Overview of optimizing cluster performance and scalability

4. Pre-Sales Technical Training for Scali Clusters

This course is intended to help pre-sales engineers become knowledgeable and competent to support the technical sales process of Scali's high performance clustering platform. Consultants are brought up-to-date on selling, deploying and managing high performance clusters using Scali Manage and Scali MPI Connect. The course covers the following areas:

  • Overview of clustering planning and system requirements
  • Identifying customer requirements
  • Description of major functions in Scali Manage and Scali MPI Connect
  • Understanding of system setup, installation and configuration

5. Custom Training Program

The Custom Training Program is generally customer/partner specific, utilizing specific clusters, technology, applications and scenarios where appropriate. The course is designed to meet the specific needs of the student's. To the extent possible, course material is customized to correspond to the identified requirements. This training is billed using an hourly fee and the hours required depend on customer requirements and the material involved.

Cancellation Policy

Registration may be canceled without tuition charge if Scali receives notification of cancellation 10 business days prior to class. Cancellations made in less than ten days prior to class will incur a $150 cancellation charge. Costs associated to Scali's travel must be covered by the customer in the event these can not be cancelled.
